About

Hello, I am Kate.  I am dually credentialed as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with a Supervisory Designation and a Licensed Professional Art Therapist in the state of Ohio. I am fully trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing for trauma related therapy.  People of all ages find their way to counseling, I personally enjoy the dynamic aspect of working with children, adolescents, and adults.  Although I specialize in the treatment of traumatic stress and mood disorders; I work comfortably with other general concerns that often bring individuals to seek support in therapy.  This might include relational difficulty, life adjustments, grief, poor relationship with food & body image, self-esteem, loneliness, and maladaptive behaviors.

I take an integrative approach to your care, all of which are evidence based. This may include art making and creative expression, EMDR, Mindfulness, Somatic Release, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.  In session we will practice the art of self-compassion and self-care, calming skills, integrate psycho-education, build self-esteem, develop self-awareness, and explore unresolved hurts.

It is well studied that the alliance between client and therapist is the foundation for the healing process.  This alone can result in desired changes. It is my purpose for you to experience being heard without judgement; allowing for a reframing of the meaning of safety and wellness.  We are all worthy of self-love and fulfillment, but may have been hindered in some way in our lives to believe this to be true. If your path feels dark, I am the flashlight that offers guidance and clarity as you find your way through.

You come to me, or I will come to you with my concierge therapy services.

Areas of Expertise

A collaborative effort towards mental wellness through creativity, compassion, and connection. I provide psychotherapy services to assist in alleviating day to day distress, improve self-alignment, and to access more joy.

Concierge

Therapy an at Your Door Service

Concierge sessions are conducted at your home.  This service is not insurance based and includes 4 sessions a month for 60 minutes sessions, telehealth is optional, and some phone consultation is included.  Clients must reside in Solon, Orange, Pepper Pike, Moreland Hills, or Chagrin Falls.  The rate is $1,000 per month for a minimum of 3 months and are paid monthly at the initiation of services.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

As defined by EMDRIA the International Association of EMDR: it is a structured therapy that encourages the client to focus briefly on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements or tapping), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories. EMDR therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms. Ongoing research supports positive clinical outcomes, showing EMDR therapy as a helpful treatment for disorders such as anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addictions, and other distressing life experiences (Maxfield, 2019).  Some studies show that EMDR can result in faster relief than strictly talk therapy.

Art Therapy

Individualized Expression

Art therapy is a mental health profession that enhances the lives of individuals, families, and communities through the act of making art and witnessing to the creative process.  It is supported by applied psychological theory in the context of the psychotherapeutic relationship. Art therapy is for everyone and all ages.  It is not about being “good” at art.  It’s about the experience, individualized expression, being playful, and trying new ways to access creativity.  Like many things in life Art Therapy can’t be fully understood until felt first hand.

Talking it Out

Developing Coping Strategies

There certainly are benefits to letting it out. Sessions may simply be about talking it through, examining patterns, cultivating new awareness, problem solving, and developing coping strategies.  It can be a relief just to be heard and validated.

Supervision & Consultation

Licensure for Art Therapists in Ohio

I offer supervision for current Licensed Professional Counselors and Art Therapists in the state of Ohio who are working in their field with clients. We will meet to complete the requisite supervision hours with the goal of independent licensure through the Counseling Board of Ohio, as well as to become a Registered Art Therapist through the Art Therapy Credentialing Board. Licensure for Art Therapists in Ohio is now in effect and requirements will evolve.  My services will continue to meet that need.  Content of the supervision is set by the licensing boards and meets the most current standards of practice for attaining licensure. Supervision and Consultation may be scheduled routinely or in an as needed basis.  The group rate is $40 per hour, and $75 for individual.
